“Life is a continual unfolding of exploration and adventure. One summer was spent driving through the west with camera and paints, wanting to reacquaint myself with America’s majesty, looking for some great, new artwork.”

Sonya believes the Soul of the old west still lives as evidenced on working ranches, and felt through quiet shivers when in old ghost towns where dust, wind whispers, and tumbleweeds are the only inhabitants. Through her art she attempts to capture the inner essence of what once was, though now just a whisper on the wind.

A graphite pencil is to drawing, as black and white film is to photography. In both mediums, the uncountable shades of gray that fall between the spectrums of black and white can allow the artist to portray more depth that all the colors of the rainbow.
