Chapter 10

Crockett and Tubbs pulled up to the building in the Testarossa. Sonny looked at his watch, it was noon. Tubbs looked at the windows of the three story building. He saw a few figures behind them.

"That must be McGurn and his boys," Tubbs said.

"Yeah, it looks like that," Sonny said as he grabbed the suitcase with the buy money. The two got out of the car and approached the building's front door where they saw one of McGurn's men waiting for them.

"Follow me gentlemen," he said as he opened the door and let them in.

"Ok boys and girls, they're in," whispered Switek from the tower a mere 100 yards away. He grabbed his radio. "Rifle-1, do you have the target in sight."

"That's affirmative command," Rifle-1 replied from the building next door. "I have McGurn in sight."

"Very good, " the sergeant said. "Trudy, Gina, are you in position?"

"We're ready to go Stan," they replied from inside a semi parked around the corner.

"Good, standby."

Jerry Block had the police sniper in his crosshairs. Wearing his ghillie suit, he hid near a tree behind a bush. His suppressed Remington 700 rifle was loaded and ready to go. The BDC was adjusted taking into account that he would be taking an upward shot. It was not the ideal shot but it would be the last place the police snipers would look. They were expecting him to be hiding on a rooftop or behind a window. He was on strict orders not to shoot until McGurn sprung the trap. He looked at the police snipers head peering though the window. Just another melon, he thought.

"Gentlemen," McGurn greeted the two buyers with a smile. "Come on in." Crockett and Tubbs walked in the room which was filled with crates full of weapons and ammunition. Two more men and Clint Davidson were there armed with MP-5K submachine guns were standing in the corners of the room. Clint nodded at them as they walked into the room.

"Well," Sonny said. "Looks like you're ready for World War III."

"Yep," McGurn replied. "We sure are or should I say you are. These are the finest weapons that you can get your hands on all courtesy of the U.S. Army. Now show me the money."

"Here it is," Rico smiled as Sonny opened the briefcase. "Two hundred fifty, a thousand times."

McGurn inspected the money. "Yeah, that's the right color. Now for the merchandise." McGurn opened one of the crates. He and Clint pulled out two rifles and tossed them to Sonny and Rico. They both caught them. When they looked up, they saw McGurn and his men pointing their guns at them. "Well, I'd say you're shit out of luck Mr. Burnett, or should I say Crockett."

Oh shit, Sonny thought. How did he know? He looked over to his partner. He knew Rico was thinking the same thing.

Block heard what was going on inside from his ear piece. That was the signal. He took careful aim at the police sniper, held his breath, and depressed the trigger.

McGurn picked up two files from the table and opened them up. They were police files. He began to gloat. "Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs. Miami Vice. You two have quite an impressive record here. You two joined up in '84 to arrest a man by the name of Calderone and you've been partners for 5 years. You both quit after you went after this General Borbon guy. So Sonny, recovered from your memory loss yet?"

"My memory's just fine McGurn. So how did you know?" Sonny asked.

McGurn snarled at Crockett. "You think you can waltz in here and bust me! And to think I was beginning to like you Crockett. There's only one thing that I do to cop pigs like you." He slid his H&K .45 pistol to full extension.

Switek looked through his binoculars and saw McGurn pointing the gun at Sonny and Rico. He quickly grabbed his radio. "Rifle-1, Command, do you have a shot? Rifle-1 do you read me?" No answer. It must have been the sniper. "Trudy, Gina, move in, it's a trap!" He picked up his binoculars again and searched the field for the sniper. He spotted him hiding behind a tree where he saw him pointing his weapon right at him.

Block had the cop in his sights. He quickly adjusted his BDC to compensate for distance. He saw that the cop didn't have a weapon, just a pair of binoculars. You're a dead man, he thought as he pressed the trigger.

Switek ducked just in the nick of time as he saw the bullet hit the building roof in front of him. He grabbed his AR-15 rifle as he got up to make a shot. He peered through the scope where he saw the sniper re-bolting his rifle. Switek took a shot, which missed hitting the tree. The sniper got up, knowing he was found, and began to run for it. Switek fired off a few more rounds, none of which hit its mark. He lost sight of him as he ran behind the building.

McGurn heard the shots from outside. He heard Block announce that he was compromised from his ear piece. His eyes went toward the window. Sonny noticed this and knew that he had to take advantage of this or else he and Rico were dead. He quickly batted McGurn's gun away and kicked him in the stomach. McGurn hunched over as Sonny's foot made contact. His hand squeezed the .45 and round went off hitting the wall. Rico crouched, pulled out his .38, and squeezed off two rounds into one of the guards both hitting their mark. The guard collapsed instantly. Sonny grabbed his Glock from his shoulder holster. He brought it up to see one of the guards pointing his gun at him. Sonny quickly placed the front sight on the guard's chest and pulled the trigger three times. Two of the rounds hit the guard in his chest and spun him around as he fell to the floor. Rico brought his gun towards Clint Davidson who was trying to get a sight picture on Sonny. He pointed and took two quick shots. The first was a miss but the second grazed Davidson in the shoulder. Davidson sprayed his MP-5 wildly as flinched in pain. McGurn's stomach was still in a knot as he got up. He picked up his .45 and pointed it at Sonny as he fired it as fast as he pull the trigger. Sonny rolled out of the way just as the rounds were hitting the floor where we was a split second before. Sonny looked up and saw McGurn running away and dragging Davidson with him, who was still firing away at Rico. Sonny and Rico began to fire at McGurn as he went into the next room closing the door, none of the rounds hit either of them however. The two vice cops reloaded their pistols just as the assault team busted through the door led by Gina and Trudy wielding their shotguns.

"Well it's about time you guys showed up," growled Crockett. "McGurn and another are in that next room over there.

"Got it. Ok team, breach, bang, and clear!" Trudy shouted. The rest of them covered the door as the door opened. One of them threw in a flashbang grenade. As soon as it went off, the team scrambled in, clearing the room. Moments later, the team announced that it was all clear.

"What?" Rico asked. "We saw them go in there!" Sonny and Rico went into the room to check it out.

"Rico," Sonny called. "Check this out." He pointed to a trap door hidden underneath a rug. "Looks like we got ourselves a gopher here." The assault team covered the trap door while Rico opened it. They looked down and found a long, dark tunnel. He grabbed a radio from one of the officers. "Stan can you read me?"

"Yeah Sonny, I read you," replied Stan.

"McGurn and Davidson went underground in some kind of tunnel system. We're going in."

"Negative!" barked the Sergeant. "Do not pursue! We don't know what kind of booby traps they got set up in there. I'll set up a perimeter in the area and see what we can do."

"But Stan..."

"That's a negative! You will not pursue! That's an order Crockett!"

"Got it Stan," Crockett replied as he threw the radio against the wall in disgust. "Dammit Rico, how did he know? How did he get access to our files?"

Rico suddenly got an ill feeling in his stomach when thought of the most obvious explanation. "Maybe there's a leak?"

Sonny looked into Rico's eyes. He thought of all the cops that knew of the operation and who knew who they were. Pretty soon, Sonny didn't feel too well considering the possibilities.

"Block, over here," whispered McGurn as he spotted him in the dark tunnels.

"Yes sir. You ok Clint?" Block said as he examined Clint's shoulder.

"Yeah I'm ok, just a scratch."

"What the hell happened sir?" the sniper asked.

"One big clusterfuck. The two pigs got away. Theylll get theirs one of these days but let's get out of here first." McGurn led the way to the end of the tunnel where it went vertically towards a manhole. McGurn opened it where a garbage truck was waiting for them. The men put their weapons in the back, put some blue overalls on and drove away, blending in perfectly with the traffic.
