Chapter 8

Crockett and Tubbs rolled up towards the street intersection. Across the street, they saw their old informant, Izzy Moreno. He was standing behind a concession stand selling what appeared to be computer parts, waving his hands and speaking out loud to attract customers.

"Well Rico," Crockett said, "Looks like Izzy's up to his old tricks." Crockett remembered when he and Rico first met Izzy. He was hiding in a hole in the ground underneath a steel plate inside of an old run down bank building. If it was dirty, he knew about it and Sonny and Rico were hoping he would know about McGurn.

"Looks like it partner," Rico replied. "I wonder what kind of scam he trying to pull of now?"

"Well there's only one way to find out," Sonny said as he got out of the Testarossa. Sonny and Rico walked quietly behind Izzy so that he couldn't see them. When they got closer, they could hear him speaking out.

"Come get your key to high speeds through the internet," Izzy said. "I have in my hands the new T2000 DSL modem card. Guaranteed to achieve transfer rates up to 2000 kilobytes per second and beyond. Our trained professionals will come into your home and set you up for FREE!!!! Also, our technical support staff is there for you 24 hours a day."

Crockett and Tubbs smiled as they walked up behind him. "So what kind of scam are you workin' now Izz," Crockett growled.

Izzy spun around and looked at the two men. His eyes widened as if he saw a ghost. His jaw dropped in amazement. He stammered for a few seconds and then he finally managed to speak. "Crockett.... Tubbs. My good friends man! It's so good to see you after all these years!" He gave Crockett a big hug.

"Get away from me you little worm!" Crockett yelled as he pushed Izzy away. Rico laughed.

"Hey," Izzy said excitedly. "Are you guys back?"

"Yeah we're back," Rico replied. "But only until we find that punk who did Castillo."

"Si, I heard. A terrible thing man. So do you know who did it?"

"Yeah," Rico said. "A man by the name of Carl McGurn. Know him?"

The name hit Izzy like a bullet. His eyes opened wide with fear. "Si, I know of him. Cold blooded killer man. You cross him man, and you'll end up like the Bay of Pigs man. You hear about that gangster Sleepy? Word on the street is that that was McGurn's handiwork. Sleepy double crossed him and McGurn got him man."

"We need this one fast Izz," Rico said. "or else more people are gonna get wasted. Where can we find him?"

"Why should I get involved man? Word gets out on the street that I sold McGurn to the cops...."

"You know Rico," Crockett said. "I wonder what the FCC will say about these modem cards. I'm curious what they would do if we gave this to them."

"Ok, ok, step into my office here man," Izzy said as he led Sonny and Rico away from the earshot of his potential customers. "I don't exactly know where to find him but I do know a friend of a friend who knows his right hand man, uh, what's his name man, Davidson, Clint Davidson."

"Izzy," whispered Crockett. "Set up a meet with him for Burnett and Cooper as potential arms buyers. Let us know the time and the place. Got it?"

"All right man," Izzy said as he turned on his cell phone.

"Hello," Francis answered.

"It;s McGurn."

"Yes, what do you need?"

"I need the access codes for the army warehouse today."

"Now?" Francis asked. "Why?"

"Clint tells me I have a potential buyer and the meet is today."

"Very well," Francis sighed. "You'll have them before the end of the day."

"Excellent. So when is the big one going to happen?" McGurn asked.

"Soon Carl, soon. Just be patient. I'm very close."

"Alright," McGurn said after a short pause. "Alright. I'll be waiting for those codes. Goodbye." Who the hell are you, he thought to himself. The more he talked to Francis, the more mysterious it became. He wondered who he was. CIA? FBI? Was he playing both sides? Or maybe some disgruntled government worker seeking revenge? He figured he had to be some government or military worker. How else could he get access to military warehouses?

"Sir," Clint said entering the room. "We're ready to go."

"Very well," McGurn acknowledged. "Let's meet this Burnett."

Crockett and Tubbs sat in the Testarossa which was parked in the parking lot of the park. They were at the right place at the right time but no sign of this Clint person. He was a half hour late. Crockett had forgotten how boring the waiting was. He thought back to all the stakeouts he and Rico did over the years and it always got worse each time.

"Man, I hate the waiting Rico," Sonny sighed.

"I know," Rico said. "Be cool man."

"Do you still think that we can pull this off. I mean it's been eleven years," Sonny asked.

Rico knew what he meant. He also suspected that Sonny was a little afraid to fall back into his Burnett alter ego. Throughout his days with Vice, Sonny sometimes had difficulty remembering who he was. Dealing with all those drug dealers had almost robbed him of his true identity and now that he had it back, he was afraid of losing it again. Rico understood that. No matter what happened, he would stand by him and be there for him, no matter what.

"We can still do this partner," Rico said. "Trust me." Sonny smiled as he noticed a bum standing fifty feet away, staring at them. Sonny thought he might be a drunk but something told him that he wasn't a bum. The "bum" walked approached them once he saw that he had been noticed.

"Care to spare some change sir?" he asked in as scruffy voice.

Sonny began to reach into his pocket when the bum firmly put his hand on his shoulder.

"You Burnett?" the bum asked in normal voice.

"That's me," Sonny said calmly. "This is my associate, Ricardo Cooper." The bum stared at them for a few moments.

"I'm Clint, come with me," he said as he led them out of the car. Crockett and Tubbs were soon approached by three more "bums". They led Sonny and Rico towards a picnic area. Rico looked at them more closely. They were muscular underneath the ragged clothing they wore. These guys were fit and trained. These guys were pros. Sonny noticed the same thing. He suddenly felt and adrenaline rush he hadn't felt in eleven years and in an odd way, it felt good.

Jerry Block sat in a motel room across the street from the park. He looked at the potential buyers through the 35mm camera with a zoom lens. Sure it wasn't as fun looking through the scope of his Remignton 700 rifle but it was the appropriate tool for the job. His job was to just take pictures. He zoomed in on the first one. A white guy, or Caucasian, probably in his 50's or so. Jerry squeezed the button and snapped a shot. He swung the camera towards the other man. A black guy, around his 40's. He pressed the button again and took a picture.

Clint and his fellow men led Crockett and Tubbs into the picnic area where they saw a man standing with his back towards them, smoking a cigar. Clint announced to the man that they were here and the man turned around. It was him. It was McGurn.

"Gentlemen," McGurn said. "I'm Carl McGurn, leader of the Delta Five. You've met the rest of my crew."

"I'm Burnett," Sonny said. "And this is my partner, Ricardo Cooper."

"So," McGurn said as he sucked on his stogie. "My boys tell me you're looking to buy some merchandise."

"That's right," Rico replied.

"So what kind of work do you do?" McGurn asked.

"Well let's just say we're in the import export business," Sonny said as he rubbed the stubble on his chin. "Our competition has been getting a little stiff and we need to upgrade our equipment."

McGurn understood him completely. "So I guess you see a lot of 'snow' in you line of work."

Rico smiled. "We see blizzards man." The small chit-chat went on for another ten minutes. Sonny began to used his charms on McGurn and in a few minutes, he was eating out of his hand. He had gained his trust. Now was the time to take advantage of it.

"So what do you guys need?" McGurn said with a smile.

"100 M-16, 50 M-4's, 200 Beretta 92's, and 1000 rounds of ammo per," Rico said.

"Well," McGrun said as he calculated the order. "That comes to a total of $250,000." Burnett and Cooper looked at each other. Cooper nodded approvingly.

"Alright McGurn," Burnett said. "You got yourself a deal. It'll take us a few days to get the money. Why don't we meet on Friday night to make the deal?"

McGurn nodded. "Sure. I'll call you in a few days so we can set it up. Well gentlemen it's been a pleasure." They shook hands. Sonny and Rico turned around and walked away.

"So what do you think sir," Clint asked as Burnett and Cooper walked out of earshot.

"Well, I may not approve of what he does but I like his style. I think we will do business with them."

"And if it goes sour?"

"I'll kill them, just like Sleepy. Let's get ready for tonight. Get the men and saddle up."

"Yes sir."

Sonny and Rico raced back to OCB but Rico couldn't wait. He picked up a cell phone and called Zwitek.

"Vice, Zwitek speaking."

"Stan, this is Tubbs. We got it! We made a deal with McGurn!" Rico shouted.

"That's great guys! Come on back to OCB It's Miller time!"

"We're on our way back right now. We'll see you in a little bit." Rico hung up. "Yes! We did it Sonny!"

"It ain't over yet," Sonny said. "It's just the beginning."

Just two more weeks, and I'm outta here, Corporal Steven Day thought to himself as he started the night watch at the front gate of the military warehouse. He was at an end of a four-year tour with the army. He had learned a lot but it was time to leave. He had a nice desk job waiting for him in Los Angeles when he got out. Life was going to be good. He'd go out surfing on the weekends, catch a glimpse of all the hot babes there. He could hardly wait. He yawned as he looked at his watch. He counted down the minutes until he would be relieved. He looked out at the street and saw a military cargo truck approach the gate. He ordered the truck to stop. When it did he approached the driver's window.

"Can I help you sir?" the Corporal said.

"Yes Corporal, we're here on orders to pick up some supplies," the driver said.

"May I see your order papers sir?" Day observed the passenger. He was a major. He looked somewhat familiar but he couldn't remember where he saw him. The driver handed him the papers. They looked official. "Ok sir, you may pass," he said with a salute. He opened the gate and watched the truck pass through. Just two more weeks, he thought again.

Piece of cake, McGurn thought as he looked at the Corporal through rear view mirror. He turned around in his seat and saw all ten of his men, who were standing in the trailer, ready to go. "Everyone good to go?" They all gave him a thumbs up. He turned to his driver. "Ok Clint, let's do this."

"Roger that sir," Clint replied with a nod. Clint navigated the truck towards the warehouse building. When they got there, he backed up the truck so that the back end faced a few feet from the large cargo door of the building.

McGurn and got out and approached the security terminal. McGurn entered the security code that Francis had given to him a few hours earlier. The console beeped with a green light and the door began to slowly open. McGurn then opened the door to the trailer. "Ok gentlemen, let's move!" His men jumped out of the trailer and began to work with ant-like efficiency. They grabbed the cases of the weapons they needed including cases of the appropriate ammunition. McGurn observed his men work and he nodded with approval. He looked to his right at some cases a few feet in front of him. He opened one of the case. Inside of it was a Stinger anti-aircraft missile. Suddenly, McGurn had an idea. These might be of use. "Davidson?"

"Yes sir," Clint replied.

McGurn pointed to the missiles. "Take about five of these. We might be able to use them."

"Roger that sir." Clint turned toward two of the men. "Taylor, Anderson, take these five of these missiles."

"Aye aye sir," they both replied.

It took the men ten minutes to load all the weapons in the trailer. Then they all got in, and drove off passing the security gate. Clint and McGurn saw the Corporal salute them as they left. They saluted back. McGurn smiled as they left. Piece of cake.
